Our Community

Lourdes Matha Syro-Malabar Church, Apex is formed to cater, mainly, the needs of the people who hailed from India, by which the spiritual, religious and cultural traditions are preserved for the generations. Syro-Malabar Church is a Major Archi-Episcopal Church that follows the oriental liturgical rites under Pope, the Supreme Pontiff. Syro-Malabar church originates its faith tradition in the preaching of St. Thomas, the Apostle. The Church comes under the Ecclesiastical jurisdiction of St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago working in collaboration with the Bishops’ conference of America. We the Church members are committed to bear witness to the faith expressions in the wider outlooks of American heritage.

            Lourdes Matha Church offers daily Holy Mass in Malayalam, Catechesis on Sundays, Ward prayers, Retreats, Christmas Carol, and other liturgical services to the community. The weekly Catechesis class attracts many students from the community and the classes are instructed by dedicated teachers. The monthly gatherings of Ward prayer is another occasion in which the members assemble at the residence of some member and offer prayers, and conduct Bible studies. Annual retreat conducted by the church is an occasion of spiritual empowerment for the whole community.  Spiritual and Bible experts lead the retreat which usually last two to three days and attended by all most all members of the church and attracts many from nearby cities. Christmas Carol is another occasion to spread the God’s message within the community and opportunity for members to express their love and devotion to the church and its members.

The community is led by Rev. Fr. Jobimon Joseph Chelakunnel with the help of dedicated Trustees, Parish councilors, Accountants, various committees, and other officials. The recent move to the new church building is a proof for dedication of community members whose sacrifices made it possible to purchase, renovate, and bless the Church.
